The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park was created in March 1994, and includes an area parallel to the coast, extending from the Cascais Citadel to the estuary of the Falcão River, Sintra Mountain and agricultural area north of the Colares Várzea.

The park is divided in two different areas: the agricultural area, that produces mainly fruit and wine, and the coastal areas, with beaches, cliffs and dunes.

It shows an amazing diversity of ambiences and landscapes, including dunes, forests, lagoons an uneven coastline, the imposing Cabo da Roca, and in the centre, the magnificent Sintra Mountain. The whole area is included in UNESCO's list of world heritage cultural landscape sites.

Within the park, there are several thriving species of oaks, eucalyptus and pine trees, and in the Sintra Mountain you can find a luxuriant vegetation which is peculiar to the microclimate of the area. Regarding the fauna, the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park has birds of prey such as falcons, owls and sparrow-hawks, many sea birds and also several species of reptiles and amphibians.

Within 25km of Lisbon, it is an extremely popular tourism area containing many different individual historical and natural sites and attractions.

Rock in Rio is a series of rock festivals held in Brazil and later in Portugal and Spain. This music festival is one of the biggest in the world. With seven editions to date - three in Brazil, three in Lisbon and one in Madrid - Rock in Rio has brought together over 4.5 million people.

The first edition of Rock in Rio Lisboa, as the festival was officially called, took place in 2004. Although the festival had a slight change of name, it kept the same structure as the Brazilian editions. An entire City of Rock, with an area of over 200.000 m2 was erected at the Parque da Bela Vista, with a large centre stage and several tents where different artists would perform, simultaneously.

The City of Rock comes to life again in May 2010, with more great bands, with numerous tents for every musical taste, and lots of other attractions within the Parque da Bela Vista in Lisbon.

Shakira, John Meyer (May 21), Elton John, Leona Lewis (May 22), Muse, Snow Patrol (May 27), Miley Cyrus (May 28), Rammstein and Megadeth (May 30) are among the confirmed bands for this year's Rock In Rio Lisboa, set to take place May 21-30 at Parque da Bela Vista.

The Parque da Bela Vista is one of the largest open areas located within the city limits of Lisbon. Traffic and parking spaces in and around the City of Rock will be restricted. Use public transport. Use the normal subway lines (red line) to arrive at Bela Vista and the special lines when you leave.

Two of Portugal's super football stadiums are in Lisbon - Estadio Jose Alvalade, home to big team Sporting Clube de Portugal and Estadio da Luz, home to legendary Portugal football team SL Benfica. Both of these Lisbon football stadiums are north of Lisbon city centre. It's easiest to get to them via nearby Lisbon subway stations.

Sport Lisboa e Benfica commonly referred to as simply Benfica, is a multi-sports club based in the beautiful city of Lisbon. Although they compete in a number of different sports, Benfica is mainly known for its football team. Historically, Benfica has been one of the most successful football clubs in Portugal and Europe and is one of the Três Grandes, or Big Three, football clubs in Portugal, with Futebol Clube do Porto, and Sporting Club de Portugal, being the other two clubs, Benfica's two biggest rivals.
The Estádio da Luz, Benfica stadium, is a legendary football stadium and took centre state in the Euro 2004 football championships. Estadio da Luz is situated in the northern area of Lisbon.
Nearest Lisbon subway stations are Alto dos Moinhos or Colegio Militar/Luz, both of which are situated on the Blue line. It's an easy walk to the Luz Stadium from both these Lisbon subway stations, and getting to the stadium via the subway is the easiest and best way to travel! Alternatively by car get to the stadium via the Segunda Circular ring road which is connected to the national motorway system.

Sporting Clube de Portugal, also known locally and internationally as Sporting is the other major Portuguese Sports club based in Portugal's capital city of Lisbon. The club is particularly renowned for its football department.
The Estadio Jose Alvalade, Sporting Stadium in Lisbon is to the North of the city centre, closed to the Lisbon Airport. It was purpose built for the European Championships hosted by Portugal in 2004.This Lisbon Football Stadium is one of the most accessible. The stadium has its own Lisbon subway station called Campo Grande on the green line and on the yellowline. Campo Grande Lisbon subway Station is within easy walking distance from the football stadium. By car you've also easy access to Alvalade Stadium off the Segunda Circular ring road and from Calcada de Carriche

Smaller Football Stadiums in Lisbon are to the west of the city centre. Estadio Nacional known also as Estadio do Jamor is home to National Portuguese football, whilst Estadio do Restelo is home to football team CF Belenenses.

The city of Lisbon will make its debut on the Red Bull Air Race calendar in 2010 when the World Championship makes a highly anticipated return to Portugal.

Lisbon Red Bull Air Race 2010 will have the Tagus River as its backdrop, between the 25th April Bridge and Belem Tower, during the first week of September, ensuring the event's continuation in Portugal.

Portugal has proved to be a popular fixture on the race calendar with cities of Porto and Gaia providing an incredible venue for the Red Bull Air Race for the last three years, attracting record crowd numbers.
