Rock in Rio is a series of rock festivals held in Brazil and later in Portugal and Spain. This music festival is one of the biggest in the world.Take a look on the lineup in Rock in Rio Lisbon 2012 official website.

The first edition of Rock in Rio Lisboa, as the festival was officially called, took place in 2004. Although the festival had a slight change of name, it kept the same structure as the Brazilian editions. An entire City of Rock, with an area of over 200.000 m2 was erected at the Parque da Bela Vista, with a large centre stage and several tents where different artists would perform, simultaneously.

The City of Rock comes to life again today, the 25th May 2012.
Great bands, with numerous tents for every musical taste, and lots of other attractions within the Parque da Bela Vista in Lisbon.

Metallica, Evanescense (May 25), Smashing Pumpkins, Linkin Park (May 26), Lenny Kravitz, Maroon 5 (June 1), Stevie Wonder, Bryan Adams (June 2), Bruce Springsteen, Xutos e Pontapés (June 3) are among the confirmed bands for Rock in Rio Lisboa 2012, set to take place in Parque da Bela Vista.

The Parque da Bela Vista is one of the largest open areas located within the city limits of Lisbon. Traffic and parking spaces in and around the City of Rock will be restricted. Use public transport. Use the normal subway lines (red line) to arrive at Bela Vista and the special lines when you leave.

Coldplay, Foo Fighter, Iggy & The Stooges, The Chemical Brothers, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Kaiser Chiefs and many others have been added to the bill for this year's Optimus Alive! 11 festival in Lisbon.

The Lisbon festival also features Xutos e Pontapés.

The four day event takes place at Passeio Maritimo de Algés in Lisbon, Portugal, between July 6-9.

The apartment is very close to the square where Lisbon's most famous market - Feira da Ladra - is held in the early afternoon every Tuesday and Saturday. Behind the various bric-a-bracs, you can also uncover second-hand clothes, books, disks, and, if you dig deep enough, some genuinely valuable antiques.
You can easily reach the city centre by foot (about 20 minutes) or by taking the famous tram number 28 (10 minutes), a scenic route crossing most of the touristy neighbourhoods of the city centre. A definite must for any visitor to Lisbon!

You can also walk to Alfama (5 minutes) and, from there, to the castle (S. Jorge) and Baixa, Chiado and Bairro Alto.

The subway is at a few steps away and is it also walking distance to the train stations that can take you to the beaches around Lisbon, to Sintra and to all the sightseeing in and outside the city.

Café Martinho da Arcada in Lisbon's downtown
Opened over 200 years ago, Café Martinho da Arcada in the Comércio square, in Baixa-Chiado district, is the city's oldest café. Coffees such as meia de leite (half milky), bicas (espressos) and the famous portuguese custard tart are served in a traditional tiled interior. It also as a restaurant, where a table remains laid for modernist poet and former guest, Fernando Pessoa.

This is the city's most famous café in Lisbon, opened in the early 20th-century. Most tourists come to see the bronze statue of modernist poet and former regular customer Fernando Pessoa. Even today this coffee house in Chiado is popular with writers.

Café Benard in Chiado
Right next door to the famous Brasileira, in the heart of historical Lisbon, is another city attraction - the Benard Café. The pastry and the croissants are an excellent reason to stop in this adorable café, opened in 1912.

Café Versailles in Saldanha
Located in the business district of Saldanha, this is a spectacular 19th century decorated café with a dizzying baroque confection, aristocratic grace and taste. An endless range of sweet and confections are served in a shimmering glass case and it is a must to visit.

Antiga Confeitaria de Belém in Belém
Antiga Confeitaria de Belém is a traditional café renowned for its custard tart recipe. Pasteis de Belém can be enjoyed with coffee in the maze of rooms at the back, sprinkled with cinnamon and icing sugar from battered metal shakers, or take them home in a tube with little sachets.
